We love welcoming you to the Bloodwood Cellar Door to share our wines - particularly if we are actually home at the time. That is why we ask you to make contact with us before you head out. It is not true that we are nudists - that’s just gossip. Once, at the end of the very long weekend sharing tastings when most people were driving back to Sydney, an unannounced couple stopped by. They had tried our Cabernet 20 years ago and remembering it with affection, wanted to be reacquainted with Bloodwood. As I was still fully dressed, I agreed to a tasting of sorts, abbreviated to tasting our richer reds. Our conversation soon turned to food that accompanies these wines and I mentioned the perfection of brisket with our Shiraz. Well, that comment generated an enthusiastic and animated discussion of BBQ, smoked brisket American style. Not only that, but our newly unannounced visitors very generously fed me a late lunch of 2 types of brisket which they had already prepared cooked long and slow over 2 days including 8 hours smoking. (The brisket itself was a cross of Wagyu and Black Angus). It was delicious. So if you are intending to visit the Bloodwood Cellar Door unannounced, pack me a lunch. FOOD AND WINE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THIS OFFER The fattier piece of brisket best was best with our 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon and the slightly leaner piece was best with our 2018 Shiraz. They still managed to accompany the beef when condiments were added; in this case pickles and a golden spicy sauce. A passionate friend of theirs has a side gig called FEEDLOT making rubs and sauces as accompaniments to Texas BBQ meats. The Everything Old Is New Again Autumn Offer includes our rich and spicy 2018 Cabernet Franc.. It usually handles Middle Eastern spices well like cumin, coriander, sumac and pomegranate molasses, fabulous with lamb or roasted spiced root vegetables Also included in the offer is our 2017 Merlot Noir. A more elegant red given its 7 years aging, smelling and tasting more mature with savoury notes on a base of fruitcake and spice. It drinks best out of a Pinot glass. A lovely couple last weekend suggested they’d serve it with a duck dish. I’d be keen to try this soon perhaps a duck ragu with pappardelle pasta. Enjoy Rhonda Doyle
