Join the Bloodwood Wine Club

if you don’t want to belong to any club that would accept you as a member, we invite you to not become part of the Bloodwood Wine club; we won’t accept your application. Non-members receive a slightly increased price for all Wine Club offers, and the difference between the price you are charged and the normal price will be donated to either Oz Harvest or Turbans 4 Australia, with your donation being matched by Bloodwood. In effect, refusing to become a member of the wine club is an act of charity.

 Wine Club New Release release

NEW RELEASES*

Here are the new release wines listed individually.

2010 CHIRAC* 6 pack

A rare, generous sparkling- not for light-hearted lovers.

Chirac matured. Both our Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines age well so we’ve pushed the boundary in ageing our bubbles. This 12 years on lees Chirac has recently been disgorged. Golden in colour with rich brioche, nashi pear and grilled nut notes in a candied lemon peel finish. A sparkling to get your palate and mind fizzing.

Check out the difference a glass makes. Try the mature Chirac out of a champagne flute alongside a white wine glass. See the different emphases in both glasses and then it’s your choice. Serve well chilled, that’s the way we like it.

2010 Chirac (6 bottle case)

Bright gold in colour with a complex savoury bouquet supporting underlying zesty Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit throughout its delicious palate, this richly flavoured Chirac was disgorged after 150 months on lees. The fine-textured, persistent mousse and lively flavours throughout complete the long and balanced mouth feel of this classic Chirac. Enjoy the savoury freshness and savour the richness of texture so much a part of this unique wine.

2022 Big Men in Tights*

The pink, fruity Malbec is back.

2022 Big Men in Tights (12 bottle case) NEW RELEASE

About the colour of an IPCC PowerPoint prediction on the future for humanity, this off-the-pie-chart pink promises a metaphysical meditation on the pleasures of cranberry and cream aromatics in an atmosphere of whole-bunch pressed Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Wholly man-made and inevitable vintage upon vintage, chilling a couple of degrees will leave a better taste in the mouth for everyone concerned.

2021 CHARDONNAY *

Nectarine and melon minerality with a savoury citrus finish.

2021 Chardonnay (12 bottle case) NEW RELEASE

Mid-green gold in colour, this Chardonnay, through its stone fruit flower and chalky aromatics, displays a savoury-textured, soft palate of nectarine and melon fruit notes. After your enjoyment of all the flinty minerality and purity of varietal expression so typical of our old Chardonnay vineyard, there remains a fruit-dense and lively presence at the absence of this wine.

Bloodwood Brainery is born

The Brainery will be a forum for customers wishing to understand more about the range of Bloodwood Wines. For this newsletter we will include two special offers that give customers the opportunity to explore our current range and vintage variations of our pinot noir.

Bloodwood Wines are grown and made as naturally as possible. We use both sulfur and copper as organic mildew deterrents on our vines.

Brainery offer #1 - The Distinctive Dozen

A special offer for anyone who would like to taste our entire range of a dozen current wines. If you have already been to the cellar door, there are wines included here which we never offer for tastings. From our 2010 bottle-fermented Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sparkling to our late harvest Riesling, there's a wine here for every occasion.

 Pinot Lovers

Why start Bloodwood Brainery?

Bloodwood has some back vintages in the cellar and the frustrated teacher in me wants to help you develop confidence in your wine opinions. You can develop an understanding of your palate by comparison tasting your way through some food and wine accompaniments. Whilst we’ve released some aged wines in the past, we have decided to add our discoveries in matching foods to our wines for your enjoyment.

I’ve been working with this concept for a while and I would like to add a little more discipline to your learning experience with our wines. So if you are interested in tasting the difference between young and older wines of ours, and discovering the nuances in food and wine matching, you can start your education at home. If you enjoy the company of others, (I learn best with people,) we may be able to organise a restaurant (either in Orange or Sydney) to cook for us and share a relatable meal and experience what makes good and better wine and food matches.

Please contact me if you’d be interested and tell me what you’d be most interested to taste and learn about.

Rhonda’s Christmas Recipes

Given all that is going on in the world we are fortunate to be able to seek enjoyment in food and wine and you know we have wine supplies aplenty.

I am such a bower bird with recipes and as well as my family and friends, my current chief influencer is Adam Liaw and his SBS TV “The Cook Up” programme.

My cooking represents the accumulation of many and varied personal discoveries. If you’d be interested to know what we’ve been checking out, these are some.

A day’s diary at Bloodwood Winery

“woke up, got out of bed, road a-closed across from my shed”

Except for terminal bureaucratic compliance and severe thunderstorm warnings, every day at Bloodwood is the same..it’s different. When you are self-employed and the Boss is a bastard, there is nowhere to hide and nowhere to run. Look, I attempt some shape to each day..exercise at 6.30, coffee and breakfast at 7; perhaps a glance at the firewall protected headlines in the Silly Boring Herald imagining what the text of the story contains and why the picture of the elephant in the corner seems stubbornly to be called GOP. Actually, I get much more value by not crossing the publication firewall because I can construct any number of stories to go with each headline and picture.

The weather at Bloodwood is always the same - it’s different!

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but it has been wet. It has been wet for what seems to be forever. And the forecast from “The Bureau” is that more wet will arrive on its regular hydro-illogical cycle until, well..forever. Besides planning for the next drought, what does that mean for we agricultural types attempting to extirpate a living from the earth which, as I may have mentioned, is wet.

Sometimes the water gets so deep you can’t find the plug...
